Domenico Lombardi is the Director of the Global Economy Department at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) in Canada.
He also serves as Chair of The Oxford Institute for Economic Policy, Vice Chair of the New Rules for Global Finance Coalition, and advises other leading organizations that shape the public policy debate worldwide, including the Bretton Woods Committee, the G20 Research Group, the G8 Research Group, and the Institute for International Affairs.
Dr. Lombardi is a member of the Financial Times Forum of Economists and serves as Editor of the World Economics Journal.
Prior to joining CIGI, he was a Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution and served as a member of the Executive Boards of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. Earlier on in his career, he served in the Research Department of the Bank of Italy.
His academic interests focus on the global economy and currencies, global governance, the G-20, the G-8, and the reform of the international financial and monetary system. Dr. Lombardi’s research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and has been referred to in Congressional and Parliamentary hearings around the world. He has testified before the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs and the Subcommittee on Security and International Trade and Finance.
In 2011, Dr. Lombardi served as the rapporteur for the High-Level Panel on the Governance of the Financial Stability Board. In 2010, he was appointed by the World Bank Group’s Board of Directors as the External Reviewer to conduct the first ever Independent Review of the Group’s Oversight and Accountability Units. A year earlier, Dr. Lombardi authored the Report to the IMF Managing Director on IMF Governance Reform (“Fourth Pillar Report”).
His latest books include Asia and Policymaking for the Global Economy, with Kemal Derviş and Masahiro Kawai, published in April 2011 by the Brookings Institution Press, and Finance, Development, and the IMF, with James Boughton, released from Oxford University Press in 2009.
Dr. Lombardi is a regular commentator for the leading international press, including the Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post, for the global newswires Bloomberg and Reuters, as well as for major TV networks like BBC, CNN and Fox News.
Dr. Lombardi has an undergraduate degree summa cum laude in Banking and Finance from Bocconi University, Milan, and holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Oxford University’s Nuffield College.
